    RHP t-stat probe question

    Hi again,

Sorry for all of the RHP questions, I just want to make sure my future friend is as cozy as possible.

I was thinking, The reason why the UTH needs both a T-stat and a t-meter is because one goes under the tank directly touching the pad, and the t-meter probe goes on the other side of the glass, causing a bit of an difference in temp.

When it comes to the RHP, I wasnt sure where to place the t-stat probe for this, so I thought it should go right next to where i'll have my ambient t-meter probe. Then i had the question... if the t-stat will raise the ambient temp until the probe reaches the desired temp, and the t-meter probe is right there next to it.. they should in theory have the same reading. If this is the case, is a second t-meter necessary? The t-stat is herpstat 4 if accuracy is a question.

I have two T8s with RHP panels on either side (originally both were divided). I have it hooked up to a Herpstat 4 and each probe dangles down and is glued in place to hang about an inch or so off of the floor. I tinkered with it until I was getting good surface temp ranges. It takes a bit to figure out the right setting so just mess with it and give it time (without a snake in there) to get the temps dialed in.

    Re: RHP t-stat probe question

I pretty much have the same setup but mine isn't glued down. Just hanging. You can see it just hanging in the back.

Are you guys not using a thermometer for the ambient? Im wondering if i can trust the t-stat to heat up the ambient temp without needed 2 dangling probes to monitor (of course with me occasionally checking with a laser thermometer until im comfortable with it

Your heat gun will work fine, however what about your hygrometer?

I have a wired combo unit, thermometer/hygrometer on the cool side in this cage and a portable wireless Accurite on the warm side. Basking shelf I check with the gun.

The probe is just hanging back by her tail and hide in this picture.

Here's the side with the wireless.

Thats a good question, one of my t-meters is a hygrometer as well.. but if i the only t-meter under the bedding, it wouldnt be able to monitor the humidity.. so i may end up having to use both
