The problem with lowes is some of their plants have fertilizers in the soil you you either have to wash everything off well or find a different source....josh's frogs has a great listing of reptile/amphibian safe plants

Amphibians, esp. are very sensitive to toxins. Not all pesticides/ferts are going to was wash out right away. You need to wash all the soil from the roots too.

Josh's Frogs and New England Herpetoculture are two good sources. Just remember that tropical plants don't always ship reliably in the winter. I recently had three shipped with heat packs. Two are fine, the third largest showed up in beautiful shape, but has since crashed. Not sure if that one will make it.

As long as you wash off the plants and plant them in a safe dirt, you should be fine. The types of plants really depends on the types of animals. What animals specifically are you shopping for?
