Do Pythons feel texture?
This may sound strange.... I had my BP Ari aroud my neck last night and the night before while watching TV and knitting - yes I knit. I am using a new super soft yarn and both evenings she has strectched out and wrapped herself around my knitting needles as if she cant get enough of the material. She has not done this with my other cotton yarns before - it seems to be this material specific. Any thoughts on whether snakes have a preference in material or textures they can feel?

I think they do. My girl enjoys slithering across tree bark during the summer when I have her outside. She also seems to enjoy the rocks around the trees, and then going through the clover patch in the yard. She will poke around, go over the same area a couple times, then off in search of a new texture. I was really not happy about the time she crushed my snapdragons, though; I had just planted them!

Could be scent related vice texture.

^scent would be my guess too. Maybe what you're using isn't as synthetic smelling as previous yarns.
No shame in knitting! I grew up raising angora rabbits for wool to pluck/card/spin/knit so I know the process from beginning to end!

I think they can feel texture. At my previous place, every single one of my snakes hated the texture of the carpet. They would try to avoid moving at all when they were sitting on it, and when they would move they did that thing where they'd arch their bellies up off the floor a little. Thought something was wrong at first, but they didn't do it on any other surface, and they don't do it on the carpet at my new place.
