Oh Tiny Bubbles, how I hate you.

So Sheila has the very beginning of an RI it seems. Just the slightest amount of bubbles around the edge of her mouth. No drool, no discharge, no mucus smears that I've seen. She's not popping or clicking either, that I've heard. She's a big, active, and otherwise healthy girl so I'm sure she'll be fine, but it sucks. I've been so careful with everything. For now she's isolated and I've bumped up her heat and humidity. I'm sure the power outage during the storm last weekend pushed her over the edge. It stressed everyone out including me trying to keep everyone warm. I ordered heat packs in preparation, but they were delayed. Unfortunately I had to co-habitate snakes in tubs for a day or so around the fire to maintain temps, so I'll be watching everyone closely. I knew it was a risk, but what else could I do. The snakes were in the mid 80's while the rest of the house was mid 50's. I think it was the right choice. Vet visit Monday. I'm not panicking, but would be lying if I said I was not worried.

Wow That's a bummer on your power, its always been my worst nightmare, I have a gas powered generator that will run the house if nessscary the best 500.
00 $ I've spent that might be an option for you to look into...

Oh wow....I was just wondering about power loss and just posted it. My last power outage I did think of the heat packs also but the power came back on. What would I have done with the heat packs ? Maybe I should have a keep warm tub made up and kept handy. I'm not even sure. I do have a generator but what if it's just a few hours ?

If it were me I would power that generator up and keep it going even if I had to stay up all night..... Maybe overkill on my part but that's the way I roll.

Well sounds like you caught it early and with an otherwise healthy snake so hopefully it will be a fast recovery if it is an RI. That worry a sick snake makes you is bad though, know the feeling. Our power rarely goes out here and only for hours but a generator has been on my wishlist for awhile too, better safe than sorry, I have a lot of lives dependent on power.

Well it's confirmed as an RI. Sheila will be on injectables for the next 4 weeks but she's expected to make a full recovery. The vet was very good, although I was surprised this was his first encounter with the Spider gene. Sheila was of course majorly stressed so her wobble was on overload. When I first unbagged her, he asked about her neurological disorder and then I explained the morph. The Vet had that "oh yeah, heard about that..." look and he actually stopped and took some video. Granted it can be pretty shocking if you've never seen it, but still. Good news is he know's his stuff and Sheila will be fine in short order.

I hope she's feeling better soon, ugh, RIs are the WORST!! It's so amazing to hear your story about keeping all your snakes warm while the rest of the house was cold, haha, your dedication and love for them is great!!! All the best, hope for a quick recovery
