Time for some tongs, or longer ones- eBay. 
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

It had nothing to do with tongs...this time at least. It happened when I tried to put him back in his cage after weighing. This happens before I feed him. The rest is quite clear lol.
