Unhappy Help!!! My baby ball python randomly died:(

I've had this baby for about a month, she ate every week until Wednesday she refused, I noticed that her poop was kinda runny and her yurates were watery too. She had a little infection on her underside but that can't be the problem because I started treating it right as I noticed it with Betadine baths and it was clearing up. What was wrong with her, could it have been one of the mice I fed her or did she drink the Betadine? Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. It's always hard to lose an animal. It's not uncommon that by the time an animal shows any physical signs of an infection that it has progressed considerably - they're very good at hiding signs of illness.

In truth, the answers you're looking for would be better off being answered by a vet if you really want to know what happened. The best we will be able to do is speculate, and that isn't likely to provide you with any real answers. If you decide to go that route, make sure your little one is kept cool (NOT frozen) and then make an appointment with your vet for a necropsy.

Again, I'm sorry to hear about your baby. It's obvious you cared for her a great deal.

Thanks guys, I plan on taking her to the vet for my sake of what I could do next time and for my other pets so that they don't contract anything. I'm mostly worried about my other BP because he is soon to be shedding and I don't want anything to infect him as well. Anyways, thanks again and I'll let you know after a vet looks at her.

Keep her in the refrigerator until you get her to the vet, freezing destroys tissue needed to do a proper necropsy.

If something contagious does crop up you should inform the seller since you only had this baby a month, chances are it was sick when you brought it home. Reptiles are very good at hiding diseases which is why a 90 day quarantine is so important.

Re: Help!!! My baby ball python randomly died:(

I called the vets around my area and they were going to charge 170$ just for the necropsy without sampling or anything. The. I found a vet 1.5 hours from my house and they wer going to charge 98$ but when I called them the vet that does necropsies was out of town so they couldn't do it till after the holidays which wasn't reasonable giving that she died Saturday the tests wouldn't be as good. So I emailed the royal reptilia which is where I got her and explained the situation. Any input on what I should do next? Thanks.
