Are my BP's hungry or just curious?
I currently feed my two BP's every 7 days. My male is 204 grams and my female is 124 grams and are feeding 20-25 and 12-15 gram rat fuzzies respectively. Today was their 3rd feeding with me. Neither has any feeding issues, and today as I was warming the rats next to their cage they both came out of their hides to greet me before I even offered the rats. They both attacked their prey like they hadn't eaten in weeks.
One thing i have noticed is about 4-5 days after they eat, they become really active exploring their cage. Normally only the smaller female was really active but this week both were. Otherwise, they will normally just stay in their hides and only come out at night to drink. Is this a sign that they are hungry and looking for food or are they just being curious? Should I up their feeding schedule to every 5 days or just keep my feeding schedule at 7 days?
Thanks!

Re: Are my BP's hungry or just curious?
I like to mix up feeding frequency and prey sizes. My young snakes eat every 5-7 days on average and my older snakes eat every 7-10 days. If your snakes seem a bit hungry go ahead and feed them. Every 5 days or every 7 days is perfectly fine. I tend to feed smaller meals more often. If they have a larger meal they wait a little longer for their next meal.

Re: Are my BP's hungry or just curious?
I see it as personal preference...I have read some ppl feed their babies every 4 days 10-15% others 5-7. I think a case by case or BP by BP basis is needed lol
The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing.

I feed every 7 days on the high end of the 10-15% mark. As long as they are gaining weight and healthy looking they should be fine.

Re: Are my BP's hungry or just curious?
If you are warming the rats next to them, your BPs are going to smell that pretty quickly and come out to investigate. I imagine it's as bad as walking into my house when my daughter has been baking cookies.

It could be curiosity and or hunger. I tend to feed, all be it live, every 4-5 days to mine until they reach about 250 grams. After that point I'll go to every 7 days, give a take due to the work schedule. They tend to do pretty well. I will also bump female up on occasion to every 5 days. This is only girls that are already of breeding size to help put a little extra weight on. I don't do that in an attempt to have them make weight.

Thanks for all the replies. Since I'll be out of town this weekend, feeding will be about 2 days early, so at 5 days. We'll see how it goes.

i think it's helpful if u are warming up the food, they can smell it and they come out to eat. they're ready and it makes it that much easier to feed.
also them roaming after 4-5 days is nice. u get to see your BP's explore and "hunt." if your male hasn't done so and is doing it now, it shows that he's acclimated and now comfy to his new home.
