    Hiding more than usual

my ball python, Moses has been hiding for about a week or two now. He's usually very active, exploring his cage around 12 AM to come out every night. But now he's not.

I changed his substrate a few weeks ago, and then rearranged his enclosure a week or 2 after that. Is he hiding because he's in a new setup? Could it also be from the weather getting colder?

Ball pythons are always happiest when they're either hiding, or they're being fed. You should get Moses out just to give him a quick check up. I don't think it's anything to do with the weather getting colder, because you're still offering heat - which means he doesn't experience it.

Took him out of his hide tonight and he seemed perfectly fine. Let him explore my bed for about 5 minutes and held him for another few minutes. Put him back in his enclosure (which was a struggle!) and now he just wants out again

Typical of all of my snakes, and most from what I hear.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    Re: Hiding more than usual

Double check your set-up to make sure temps and humidity and everything are where they should be. The weather getting colder shouldn't affect the temperature in your enclosure. But assuming husbandry is on point it's probably normal behavior. If I don't see any activity from mine for a week or so, it invariably means we're due for a shed. They get very reclusive.
