    Abandoned ball python

I just saw that the local police department has found a normal BP abandoned in a tank a in a pond with a dead rat thrown in... I'm trying my best to be able to get the animal and rescue it and give it a better home... I don't know anymore than that... I'll keep you guys updated. I plan on calling the county animal shelter tomorrow... I tried tonight but only got voicemail

Just got off the phone with an animal control dispatcher. They said I'd be getting a call back from an animal control officer sooner or later.

If they operate the same way my town does, they will keep the animal for three days.
After that, it is free to release for adoption. Where I live that is a simple one page form.

If it were me, I'd be asking if they have a suitable enclosure, and heat source. I'd bring over my spares so the animal would at least be comfortable for the wait. Your situation may vary; this is a small town, we know the cops by name, and I have worked previously with the local shelter.
