Smile New BP owner from Finland.

Hey all! I'm Janina and I'm new to owning reptiles and I knew buying a BP would be the best way to start. I want to introduce you all to my beautiful female Purple Passion BP baby. She's almost 3 months old now and I got her a week ago from a local breeder and she's been doing fine by what I've observed. Temperature on cool and warm side are perfect, she ate a rat with a huge appetite on wednesday night and the day after she poop'd. So she's been working fine, I'm just waiting for the shedding to start as it should soon and I'm a little bit nervous about that.
Anyway she's a bit of the snappy and shy side, though she's also very curious and a master of escaping for sure as expected from BP's.

She has hissed and at the same time she puffs at me when I've picked her on my hand and moved her to another box to clean her habitat. I guess she's still scared of me because I haven't been handling her. I'm not scared of her at all or that she will bite me, I've just wanted to leave the unnecessary handling and let her be on her own at least for one or two more weeks. What do you guys think about that? Of course I want her to get used to me and such, but when would be the right time to start handling her for a couple of days a week?

Gorgeous snake! Remember, she is just a baby and you are huge and intimidating. She will always be a bit fearful whenever you go to get her out of the cage. Just move slowly and pick her up gently from behind and let her sit in your hand. After a while she'll calm down and start looking around. Just remember that anything coming towards her from above or in front of her head will scare her. You'll notice though that she'll go into exploratory mode faster and faster each time you handle her as she becomes more comfortable with you. I handle my two babies every 2-3 days for 10-20 minutes a piece (depending on how antsy they get). I never put them back when they're still scared and balled up or coiled. Always handle them until they relax and are calm and then let them go back to their home. I always like to just hold them near their hide and let them find it and crawl in.

    Enjoy your BP!

Yes, she sure is. I'm a proud mummy. A really good advice, I will try that method tomorrow. Thank you! (:
