    Trouble in cali

Watched a documentary about marajuana growth in the US and in cali at the time. The government or DEA was using inferred from planes to determine if a home was using large amounts of power or heat sources to warm there reefa plants. Any owners in cali ever experience run ins with the law over suspecting trafficking in marajuana? Just curious?

I have had a landlord ask what I was doing to cause the electric bill to go double what the other tenants house....then he started making me pay half the electric bill...

I know the electric bill increases when you have reptiles, but I still don't know if I completely believe that reddit story. Reason being grow lights are 100s of Watts, compared to heat mats being down between 5 and 25 watts. A thermal imager doesn't look at how many watts are being consumed but more at how much heat is being generated. MH lights at 400 watts a piece will put off a much hotter heat signature than a bunch of heat mats. If they were to truly look at electrical consumption and heat signature I don't believe this story. Just looking at power consumption maybe. Also when looking at heat signature there is a big difference between an entire house being used as a growing op and even a large reptile collection. A humans body temp gives off a higher thermal signature then cages with an ambient in the 80s. If I get a chance I will break out our thermal imager at work and show you a comparison.

Ya reading through my posts again I figured it was a matter of time, no illegal operations here, however I have done quite a bit of thermal imaging at work. The batteries are charging in our imager now so by tomorrow I should be able take some sample images to show the difference.

I could see more problems with say a bearded dragon breeder more than a snake breeder

Bear in mind though some people keep their snake room at a higher temperature than the rest of the house. Mine is because I have a chest freezer in it for the snake food, the exhaust from the freezer helps heat the room. Others run a heater in the snake room to keep it in the upper 70's while the rest of the house is cool, especially in the winter.

When I had all my snakes up in my loft I ended up switching off the heat mats during winter and just heated the room separately since it was easier and more cost effective. It snowed here last winter and I remembered a picture I saw of an apartment that was raided for drugs because all the snow melted off the roof of that one specific unit and I was in a panic that that's what would happen where I was. Maybe it's just because snow sticks around for maybe 2 days tops where I live, but the snow on my unit didn't seem to melt any faster than the others.

idk, I'm sure there are some similarities with heat signatures, particularly when heating a whole room over using heat pads, but I'm unsure if it's enough to warrant a raid.
