Well, I've made the humdity a lot more consistent (in the 50 to 60% range) in issa cage over the last couple of month, and in the last two weeks, I've gotten rid of the heat lamps entirely.

I'm hoping this problem will be corrected with his next shed, which will be in about 2 weeks. If not, does anybody have ideas for preventing this? The rest of his skin comes off prefectly. His eyecaps slip off without a problem, but the top of his head keeps doing this. he's pulling off just a tiny bit of new skin with the old when he's shedding.

I've made this a clickable thumbnail due to possible dial up image problems.

Btw, are you guys getting pop up ads or anything like that with imageshack? I have all that stuff blocked, so I have no idea if I'm using a site with popup ads to host these pictures.

Im not sure if this will help but you culd try putting him in a warm bathtub for a while once you see him starting to shed. Soaking may losen the skin enough so that it will just fall off. When ever Nyxx shows signs of shedding i put her in the bath for about 30-40 mins with her littl island to sit on and she loves it in there. Not to mention by the time i take her out the skin is just about ready to fall off. I grab one piece that is hanging down and as she moves it just come off all in one piece. Hope this helps.

This is really a common problem in the winter. When it gets cold out and your house is heated (especially with electric heat) the air gets really dry. The thin skin on the top of your ball pythons head and around it's neck can be the most severly effected.

Have you considered a humid hide? They are really a ball pythons best friend during cold dry winters!

I'll make him a new one, I think his current humid hide is too small. Thanks for the idea adam.
