so i woke up yesterday to find my accurite thermometer (the 15 dollar one at walmart) submerged in my bp's water bowl. (it was my fault, i forgot to put it back in its place after i put put his cage back) not functioning at all. so at first i was a little bummed cause i thought i'd have to buy a new one, but then i remembered a friend who jumped in the lake with his camera in his pocket. he then put it in the oven for a little while on low temp and it worked again. so i thought hell, why not try it. I put it in the oven at 170 for about 5 min.
took it out...(slightly warped from the heat), let it cool down and dry out for a while, put a new battery in it and walla...it worked again.
not sure if this was an isolated incident, but if your guys' dig equipment becomes water logged, try putting it in oven one low temp for short period adn see what happens.
just thought i'd share...

interesting story
But is the accurite still accurate?
My son threw my cell phone in the pool over the summer, and the ole' over trick didn't help!

Did he get thrown in the pool after it?

Well, he's only 3 and not the best swimmer yet, but he did a good job of helping dad find it and dry it off!

Ah. I guess at three he gets a pass. My kids at 12 and 14 would be tossed in the pool after the phone.

I got two good ones along these lines.
I build custom PCs and also do repairs and upgrades. I am always getting DVD, CD-Rom and Floppy drives that people say do not work anymore. I throw them in my dish washer and wait a week and they start working agin 95% of the time. They have just had to much crud build up in them to work right. Wash them, let them COMPLETELY DRY and they are good to go.
My ever so wonderful, beautiful, charming, funny, intelligent girlfriend (yes she is standing over my shoulder right now) left her top down on her Mustang in my driveway last summer with her laptop in the passenger seat. Well of course it started to rain. You all seen that coming, right. It got pretty wet. Not drowned, but much wetter than you would ever want. I kept it and let it dry out for two weeks and it has worked flawlessly.
The key with electronics and water is this. If it is on or on stand by and water gets involved.... it is toast. If it is off and there is no juice flowing, there is a very good chance it will live if you do not turn it on until it is COMPLETELY DRY. Which can take a couple of weeks.

Amen, shrap - dont know how many game cartriges, mp3 players, flash drives etc I have fished out of both the washer AND dryer and had work again once let dry. I only wish the other surprises we find in there (gum, chocolate, chapstick, permanent markers etc) were as washer/dryer friendly hehe.
