    Odd silvery hatchlings

    Hello!

A strange thing happened with one of my clutches. I got one very pale and horribly deformed pastel who died within hatching and 4 strange coloured, silvery gray pastels that died in their eggs on the very last day before hatching. I checked the dead odd ones and they were perfectly fine looking (no kinks, no smell etc). I thought there must have been a temperature failure in the hatchery, but no - there was another clutch at the same incubator and all the babies hatched perfectly fine.

Any ideas what could be the cause? What do you think about the colours? If the hatchling dies in the egg, is this kind of colour change normal? What about the the light colour of the yellow pastel, all the pastel hatchlings I have seen are more orange.

    Thank you! Kati.

Wow, sorry to see that. I know that babies seem to change color when they pip and start to breathe. I cut an egg a few years ago, the snake was white and purple After he started breathing it turned out to be a Mojave.
