My Baby Brigid

This is my baby Brigid, born on St. Brigid's Day. We had to put her down yesterday as she finally succumbed to the IBD that took both of her parents. The vet said she wouldn't live past 6 months or so when we decided to keep her. This is her at seven and a half years. Rest in peace baby girl. I hope the rats where you are will forever be fat and slow.

Sorry for your loss, definitely was a beautiful red tail forsure! Looked very tame, such a shame to see a loved one go. Im sure she meant alot to you.

My GF and I used to rescue larger snakes when we lived in Cali. There were a lot of people out there who would by boas and pythons and then couldn't take care of them once they got to larger sizes. I'm assuming one of the boas or pythons was a carrier that didn't show signs during their 90 day quarantine. Because of the IBD we had to put down several adults and when we made the decision to keep this one baby we stopped rescuing so that we didn't take the chance of infecting any other snakes. The vet told us not to expect her to live past 6 months or so, but she survived for nearly 8 years.

Sorry this isn't super helpful but at the time we had no experience with IBD nor did the exotic vet we use have any. They ran multiple, multiple tests on the first red tail we had to figure out what was wrong with him. When they finally put him down they did a necropsy that discovered his organs covered with inclusions. While they had done a test for IBD it had come up negative.

Oh that's terrible. I used to have two boas and I had never heard of it before. Currently I just have one ball python and I thought about eventually adding a boa or two in the future. But I have been seeing an increase of IBD cases in boas and the more I read the more it sounds like several boas can be a carrier for it without any obvious signs. And that it's almost an instant death for pythons. It seems like quarantine isn't as effective as we hoped. I know there was talk that they are actively looking for a cure for this. I hope they find one, I love boas so much. This situation would just break my heart as I'm sure it has yours.
