    Thermometer Positioning with UTH?

I was looking at the sticky'd setup guide for the twenty gallon tanks and noticed that the author gave this image to illustrate how they fastened the UTH to the tank:

Wouldn't it be smarter to tape the thermostat to the other side of the heating pad so it doesn't reduce contact between the middle of the pad and the bottom of the tank? My tank is on 1/2" feet, so it would definitely fit like that; just want to know what everyone else thought.

When heating tanks with a UTH, I usually tape the probe to the underside of the UTH rather than in between, and calibrate from there. That said, I've placed the probe between tank and mat, as well. Both work.

Then you also sand a chance of having cooler room air causing a false reading.
