What size rubbermaid should I get to house a baby BP in? I want something big enough that will comfortably house her until she's ready to move into a 4 ft AP cage.

Oh and how much height would be best? 7 inches or 12 inches?

    Thanks

I have no idea on rubbermaid sizes, specifically. I do know that a 20 gallon will house a bp until it's about 2 feet or so. So I guess any rubbermaid with the measurements of 2 x 1 feet. When I go shopping for my rubbermaid this month(since Pelota just hit 2 feet), I'm just gonna bring a little measuring tape in my pocket, and measure the containers in the store, lol.

That's just my quick answer. I'm sure someone else can give you a specific size or name of a good container for babies.

Oh, and as for height, bp's are mainly ground dwelling, but given the opportunity, some will utilize a climbing branch and stretch out. But honestly, I don't think it matters. My bp has a nice sized stick to hang off of and climb, and I've seen her use it maybe 3 times, lol.

The lower the height, the easier it is to maintain a horizontal heat gradient, IMHO, so I'd be inclined to go with less height. All you need is a couple of square feet and an enclosure that will close securely. Otherwise, it's up to you. I have some 66 qt Sterilites that I have used and some Sterilite drawers that are 10" high and the drawers are easier to maintain, though a little more difficult to secure.

If I'm not mistaken, I started out with a 17 or 19 quart container for the juvies and moved up to a 28 quart . . . I think . . . I'm not real good with numbers.

There really is no set age at which they hit a certain length. Its all about your own bp's metabolism and feeding schedule. They are all different.

I use a 15Qt Sterilite tubs, model number 1754, in a rack for my babys. They stay in there until they are around close to 2 feet. The tubs measure 17" deep, 11" wide and just over 6" high.

From there I move them to the 32Qt tubs, model number 1756. The dimensions are 23 1/2" deep by 16 1/4" wide by just over 6". I keep them in these racks until they reach close to three feet.

From there they move to larger individual enclosures.

Granted my sytem is for keeping multiple snakes, but I am just trying to give an idea of the size tubs I use for for different size snakes.

Like Led said, there's no real set age or anything. Every BP is different. But for comparison and stuff, my bp is 6 months old coming up December 8th, thick enough to easily take a big weanling rat(maybe a small rat, lol), and was measured at exactly 24.3 inches two nights ago.

I can't wait to get Pelota a bigger tank. I feel bad when I look at her exploring her cage, and she's knocking stuff over and looking all clumsy. It's not REAL cramped, but I'm sure she'd love some space. Hopefully she can hang in there for another two weeks, lol.

Well, I just got back from Walmart and I picked up a couple of 28 qt Sterilite containers. They measure 20 X 14 X 6, and cost under $3 each. I figure I can house a baby in there until she's about 2 feet, by which time I will hopefully have enough money for a 4 foot plastic cage. Do you think she'll be happy in there 'til she's about 2 ft?
