2nd Pre-lay Shed?
So my Hypo Enchi girl ovulated on June 1st. She had her pre-lay shed right on schedule a couple weeks later as expected, and day 27 post shed is tomorrow. The way I have her tub set up there is a paper substrate and another paper for her to hide under, so when I would check on her I'd just take a peek under the paper. However when I went to look at her today, because she has been laying coiled with her tail draped over her into the middle I thought she might go a few days early, I fully lifted up the paper. To my surprise I found no eggs but instead found she is deep in shed. Can anyone shed some light on this? (No pun intended). Is this unusual and should I be concerned as I haven't really seen this as a thread post before?

My albino female did this. Right after she shed it looked like she had absorbed the eggs. Foolishly, I stopped checking on her as frequently, and in about two weeks she had laid 3 eggs.
Since this is my first year, I can't speak about how common it might be, but don't do like I did and quit checking on her.

Thank you for the quick response. Was the clutch viable and did they all go to term with no issues?

They're still incubating. All three were viable, but I think they spent about 5 days with the mom. I don't know the lay date. Also, one of the eggs has dimpled severely, but still shows strong, pulsing veins. They have 2 weeks to hatch, approximately.

Re: 2nd Pre-lay Shed?
While unusual I have had 2 females over the years shed twice between their Ovy and laying eggs.
Clutches were fine in both instances.

Thank you again and best of luck on your clutch.

Thanks Deborah. That is good to hear. Where the clutches any larger than normal, anything that would warrant the need to shed twice because of growth?
I guess it also means I won't be seeing any eggs tomorrow. I don't mind waiting as long as mom is healthy and the eggs are viable.
