    Improper feeder size?

So I know I only posted a few times here when I first got my BP back in November, but I figured this would be the place to post this question since I can't find a good clear answer anywhere else.
I've been feeding him 1 "small adult mice" (from the Arctic Mice brand you can find in Petsmart) for some time now, 1 every Monday. Recently I've been noticing he's been out and about earlier in the week than normal, like he's getting hungry midway through the week. So I decided to do some research and found that most people's BPs are usually on small rats or rat pups by a year old?? So now I'm thinking I've been under feeding him for a while I'll attach some pictures of charts I found randomly on the Web in other snake forums and also pics of my snake. I just weighed him today after receiving the scale today as well, and he is 229-230 grams, and he will be a year old this July on the 28th. So what I'm asking is, what size do you all recommend me feed him by now? Preferably in the "sizes" labeled with the Arctic Mice brand, as I can't get mice anywhere else around me. Thanks in advance

Him eating the small adult mouse this last Monday on feeding day. (Yes, this is a separate older cage, it's easier for me for cleanup)

    Re: Improper feeder size?

He should be on rat pups
Some say 10 to 15 percent of the weight till he gets over 500 grams
I would also look around for rat breeder as you are over paying at chain stores look on craigslist or check out a reptile show near you. Thry also sell online but if you only have 1 snake theb it might be hard to off set shipping cost but tgats a option slso.

    Re: Improper feeder size?

So according to research, rat pups would be equal to large mice, correct? I just keep thinking how he could put his mouth around it haha, but maybe I'm just underestimating the power of snake's mouths stretching lol. And i know it's overpriced, but buying from Petsmart is the easiest for me considering there's no one around here that breeds feeders back when I was searching before I got my snake, and I've looked at the online sellers before, and that is a bit expensive as well considering shipping costs, and that I only have 1 snake. Since he will be sizing up every so often, I don't think that'd be worth it until he's fully grown because they usually sell in big packs

Yes that would be fine unless you feed maybe 2 every 10 days.

My snakes that size are around the point of switched to weaned rats. If it was mine, and I could only do mice, I would just start doing 1 XL mouse once a week. At some point, you'll need to do multiple prey for him, but a jumbo mouse once a week should be fine for a while for him.
It is okay to use pine bedding for snakes.
It is okay to feed live food to snakes.

Switched my girls to weans right around 300 grams. They look HUGE when you look at them in he packaging, but a snake that size should be able to eat a wean fine.

    Re: Improper feeder size?

Hmm, well I'll probably just get the large mice when I go to Petsmart this Saturday, hopefully he will eat them! Also another question, how often do you guys size up the food? About every 3 months, or longer? Less than that?

I would put him on rat weanlings now, as it's easier to switch him while he's young and hungry. I switch my hatchlings while they're still on mouse hoppers.
