    Question wide temperature range...

I have my setup ready. But I'm having an issue.. I'm using a temp gun, and the temperature of the hot spot ABOVE the paper towels is only 83~87, depending on the location. But if I use the temp gun for UNDER the paper towel, it's at 90~95. The paper towels seem to be really stopping heat from the UTH from getting through.

And I know that some snakes end up getting under the paper towel? I don't want to set the thermostat so high that it is too hot if he gets under. But if he stays above, it's too cool...

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but advice would be great. My albino male baby is coming on Tuesday.

Paper towel get a natural curve to them so they may be slightly raised from the cage bottom. Keep the actual floor of the cage at the proper temp and you will be fine. You can place a heavy object over the uth and after a while check the temp. I bet you will find it is close to the same temp as the cage floor as it will have been resting against it without no gap.

I've actually done all those things so far. :s My crock water dish is in a corner on the UTH. The paper towel is flat on the tub when I'm using the temp gun. Maybe I have an extra thick paper towel...?

ETA: Now I'm using the temp gun above the paper towel again, and the temperature range is as low as 80~84 on the hot spot. And I'm pressing down on the paper towel when using the temp gun. Still 90~95 under the paper towels though. I wonder if I'm using the temp gun wrong... LOL.. Should I just take out the paper towels...?
