What kind of male BP should I pair with my female?

This is Ruby my female BP. She is the first snake we got and now we also have a male Columbian Redtail boa, Jake and a female Lipstick Sunglow Redtail boa, Blondie. Since we have already paired are boas, even though Blondie is only a month old and Jake 6 months old, we would like to pair Ruby with a younger male BP. We aren't sure what kind of BP Ruby is, input would be wonderful, and we are indecisive as to what would pair beautifully with her. We aren't looking to be full time breeders, but just want to do a clutch and a litter or two. I will post more pictures of all my snakes and my two bearded dragon Marty an Henrik in more posts as I am brand new to this forum.

I would go with a super simply because you won't get a normal out of the clutch. Super Mojave, super lesser, etc.

to the forums, Ruby looks to be a normal to me. Now as far as morphs go, you have a LOT to choose from and no one can assume to know your tastes and interests in the various color mutations. I can recommend a site for you to help you get an idea of what morph or combo morph you might find to your liking.

When you say "paired" ... Do you mean you are already trying to breed them?? I'm a ball python person and have no boa's but I'm pretty sure they or at least Blondie is WAY to young for that just yet. .... Anyways on to your actual question .... Ruby looks like a Normal, but you'll have to get up a picture of her in normal lighting for some more accurate input from us .... Ruby should be at least two years old (3 is more ideal) and weigh at least 1300 to 1500 grams before you should "pair" / breed her to a male

Re: What kind of male BP should I pair with my female?

No, that's why I said they were young. I am definitely not breeding them yet just plan to once they are of mature breeding age. I also don't plan to breed Ruby until she is of mature breeding age as well. We know they are all young and not ready for breeding obviously. We would just like to get them while they are young especially for handling purposes. Like I said we are not planning to be full time breeders but would like to see what we can produce from a clutch and a litter or too. We also don't plan to breed until we have full knowledge of what we are doing. When I say paired it just simply means we have two of them and we would like to breed them when they reach mature breeding age. Also, they are all in separate 4 foot and 6 foot enclosures.

I agree I believe she is a normal as well. Thank you for the recommendation. I really like the lighter and more colorful morphs but my hubby likes the more earthy toned ones. It's going to be tough to choose.

I also will look into the supers. Thank you for the recommendation.

Good deal ... Just checkin ... It's good that your getting them all young and raising them up, gives you plenty of time to do your research and get things set up .... If the hubby likes earthy natural looks and you like the lighter look check out the fire, butter, Mojave, pastel, and lesser, genes. All of these genes will give you 50/50 odds on the clutch so some of them will be natural looking for the hubby and some will be brighter and lighter like what you like ... Plus all of the above genes except for pastel tend to clean the pattern up pretty crisp and it appears Ruby already has a cleaner pattern so it should make a very gorgeous first clutch to please you both

What kind of male BP should I pair with my female?

It's a lot of work and a lot of research, more than I thought it would be. But we are animal lovers and give our animals the best we can. I appreciate all the awesome advice. I really like the bumble bees and the super pastels. We might meet a happy medium with those. I'm also really excited because we just got our shelving unit for our reptile room to put our front sliding window Boa Master 4 and 6 foot enclosures on. I love the heated top panel and temperature control they have. This makes room for both of the 40 gallon double door enclosures that our bearded dragons are in. I love handling them all as much and I can and they are just as sweet as my dogs and cats. We try to get our friends little boy to help handle all of them as well because he loves reptiles and it's very comforting knowing that I can say that kids can handle my reptiles. Take that congress, lol.

I found out from the breeder that she is a Normal Het for Pastel.

And he call himself a breeder? Sadly there is no such a thing as a het pastel, pastel is a co-dom. It is either a pastel or it is not.

This is a good lesson for people reading this, people should have a basic understanding of genetics and know which morphs are Co-dom, Dom or recessive prior to purchasing.

Well thank you for clarifying. I must have got the information wrong. I know that he said she was bred from two pastels. I don't know much about BP morphs yet and I am still learning. It's a lot of information and research trying to look into BP genetics and we are trying to learn as much as possible even if we don't breed her but still get another BP male.
