    Albino Spider Female

I recently purchased (3 months ago from a reputable breeder) an albino spider female ball python as a pet for my youngest daughter and now my oldest daughter wants one as well. They want to experience breeding, incubating eggs etc. I have experience breeding snakes (I bred chondros and others years ago in high school) but I am new to the morph stuff. I have heard the spider gene is tricky and can create issues when bread to certain other traits.

We are looking for what would be considered the best partner to breed to this female as far as valuable and healthy babies. We are currently thinking an albino pinstripe male would be a good option to make albino spinner babies. Is this a good idea? Any other suggestions?

Our female is currently 600g (still a little small for breeding), she is a healthy eater, great disposition and absolutely no wobble what so ever. The only issues I would say she has are she has very little contrast, almost looks solid yellow and she has very poor aim when she strikes (while eating). She does not wobble like some describe, she is very still but just flat out misses her target quite often. Maybe its that I am used to arboreal snakes and they are somehow more accurate? Maybe that is normal or maybe it is part of that spider genetic flaw.

Thank you in advance for any helpful info
    Joe

Missing strikes runs with the wobble. My spiders are the same way breed what you want to produce. Go to world of ball pythons genetic calculator and start plugging in males and see what u like. I would definitely get something with the albino gene even if it a 100% het albino with other Dom/co-Dom stacked on top.

Thank you for the info, I kind of figured the missed strikes had to do with that genetic flaw.

We were planning on going with an albino male, we were just unsure what other things to shoot for. Can you think of anything better to breed to here than an albino pin? I looked at the calculator and all it tells me is that the spider gene produces genetic issues.

Alot of great morphs besides pinstripe. Jus depends on $ and what u like. the genetic calculator will show u the odds and pics of what the offspring will look like. Just keep plugging in different males and looking at what the offspring looks like until u find something you can't live without. Breed for what appeals to you and your faimly is your best bet. even if an albino spinner is the must have for you nothing wrong with that they are beautiful snake.

Here's the BHBreptiles Genetic Wizard, and the World of Ball Pythons Genetic Wizard, for you to dink around with and figure out what would make a good pairing :) They're also fun just to play with!

So I spent quite a few hours playing with the genetic calulator. Between that and looking at what is actually available I keep going back to the albino pin. Not necessarily because I think the albino spinner is the coolest looking but it seemed to be the only one I could find that would utilize the albino, spider and pin traits with minimal genetic issues.

I am not familiar enough with the stacked genes to get too deep into that part of the calculator but if anyone has a suggestion I would love to hear it. I am not totally sold on the albino pin but at this point although it seems to be the favorite so far.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try Albino black pastel. I think both Albino black pastel and Albino black bee are nice.

I had a great conversation with a guy over at N.E.R.D. two days ago. He got me turned onto the idea of an albino blanchi (black pastel enchi) or blanchi het albino. My kids and I have been looking up what the potential offspring look like and all I can say is wow.

I am sure the overall value of the babies would be greater with the albino blanchi but we really like some of the morphs that are not albino as well. At this point I think I have my work cut out for me just finding one. I have only found a couple pictures of an albino blanchi but have not seen any for sale nor in any collections advertised so far. I have seen a few pastel blanchi het albino but not black pastel blanchi. Anyhow, the search is on and we are excited. Thanks for all the helpful advice!

Thank you T_Redbull, we ended up getting lucky and got a Albino Black Pastel Pin! Shooting for the Albino Black Pastel Spinner. I think the contrast from Black pastel with albino would make a spinner look amazing! We are also kicking around the idea of getting a couple Black Pastel Het Albino females to breed to him, hopefully we can get some healthy super black pastels and some blizzards. Fingers crossed! Thanks everyone for the input!
