Doubt anyone noticed my mere absence. It was only a weekend. But yeah... Friday my computer decided to screw me over, and my hard drive said "hmm....you know what? I think today I'll shake things up and stop working" so after a few attempts of resolving the problem myself, I admitted defeat and brought the freaking thing to the local computer shop. 3 days and 180 dollars later, it was back with a fresh new hard drive. And a copy of Windows XP Pro the guy forgot to take out of the hard drive.

So yeah, after 3-5 hours of downloading and installing needed programs, updating software, configuring this and that, I'm finally all set up I think. It was only a weekend, but felt like forever. Never had days go by so slow, lol.

y did you pay someone to install a harddrive and an OS? installing a harddrive isnt that hard, neither is an OS as long as you have the CD and CD-key.

I kept telling my mom to just buy a freaking hard drive and let me do it. But we also dont have any XP disk(none came with the computer ) so I'd still be screwed. So we left it to the professionals. But yeah I could've easily done it all myself if I had the disk and hard drive, lol.

ok thought you would have had a back up disk or something. most of the time you get one, well at least i give people all the disks they need to restore their system back to original when i build systems for people.

well i am not saying he is stupid but most computer smart people have a back up of their system somewhere either on another harddrive or a cd/dvd backup( i have both just incase) so they dont have to pay someone else fix it.

    Pics of the Wild One

I do have backups, but none recent. It's not like I can do a backup every day after I save something, lol. And even still, with a backup, I'd still need a new hard drive. I tried wiping the computer out and everything, but the hard drive was kaput. And I already explained how I could've done the fix myself, but it was up to my mother, who owns the computer, and she chose to just bring it in. In fact, she brought it in while I was sleeping that morning, so it was too late anyway.

Ok i thought you said that it was your computer not your parents. I built my parents one and the modem went bad and instead of buying a 30 modem they went and bought a new Dell. You also said that you didnt have an OS so what good is a back up if you dont have an OS? But i never said that you didnt need a harddrive but damn 180 buck for a HD and install thats alot. i just bought a 200gig SATA for 100 buck last month and a 120gig SATA for 70 buck 2 months before that. But oh well that is what computer illiterate people do even when they know someone that can fix it for them but just dont either trust them enought or dont want to wait on a fix.
