Rats I froze yesterday still soft?

Yesterday I drove with a friend to the nearest reptile shop to get feeders. I loved it. We both needed several. I asked for 16 small, which is enough to get me through June and July. He went back and came right back out and immediately apologized. He said they didn't have any frozen, but that he could pre-kill for me. I paused, but my friend immediately said to do it and it was dismissed. They told me to put it on ice for the drive home (we did ) and then get them in a freezer. I got home, packaged them in baggies of two, put the baggies in a grocery bag, and tossed it in our crappy garage freezer. Well, today is feeding day for the girls so I grabbed a pack and it seems the majority of the rats are definitely COLD but still soft all the way through. I'm so used to them feeling like ice blocks. I smelled them to see if they'd gone bad but they smell like regular rat. Are these okay to use? Does this happen often? They've been in a freezer since yesterday morning about 11am...

SoundsSounds like an issue with your freezer. It can sometimes take a while for the center of a pile to freeze, but not that long. I recently froze close to a hundred at the same time, packed in bags of ten or so, and I did notice the center of the pile took almost a full day to freeze. But if they still smell fine I'd go ahead and use them.

Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Never argue with idiots. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.

alrighty! I placed them in the back to get them colder. The freezer is definitely working.. I think it's because they were in the door of it lol

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

They should be fine, no different than keeping fresh meat in the refrigerator for a day so it doesn't go bad.

The door of the freezer is often the warmest part though, so I would move the feeders down to the bottom shelf to make sure they get frozen properly.
