Just one of them nights, I guess!
Exciting news: my husband surprised me with a pretty little boy! I have a new spider ball python to go with my female pastel, maybe some day. But that's still a long way off, haha.
Anyways. My girly pastel has stuck eye caps on. I got some mineral oil and just applied that carefully. She was doing the fun click and hiss and throat bulge. (I'm assuming that it's not an RI and just her irritated from not seeing well due to stuck eye caps as there is no mucus or anything from her nose and mouth and it's not a constant thing, just started after I held her for a few minutes to see what her condition was.. anyone have any comments on this?) So this snake mom was all fretted over her, never dealt with stuck eye caps before.... I put her away and I see the new baby had his head poking out of his hide and I couldn't resist, I had to take him out to say hi!
It had been two days since I received him, he even took a rat no problem that first night. Maybe I should've waited for him to settle longer, but when I was thawing rats for my other snakes, he was roaming around, so I thought maybe I'd try and he took one no problem! (Of course I was full of pride and love for my new baby eating right away with no issues!) Yeah, well he ate it just fine, curled up in his hide and was settled for two days. It had been two days, so I took him out tonight after dealing with my eye cap lady and he was sitting on my lap while I was browsing the internet, after five or ten minutes or so I put him back.. didn't want to keep him out too long. He was roaming around, had a drink of water. He drank quite a lot, I watched him for a bit and wondered off. My husband heard some rustling from him a minute later and I looked and he was rolling around in his cage. I went over to find him peeing and pooping and he then spit up the remains of the rat I had fed him two days ago. I've never had a snake regurgitate anything, I think I may have pulled him out too soon in my excitement for the little guy. Any thoughts on that? Between dealing with a stressed snake with stuck eye caps and a puking new guy all in one night when I've never had these issues ever before in my three years of caring for snakes, a little insight would be great, haha.
Anyone else have crazy days/nights with their snakes?
Edit: Sorry, it's been three days now. If that means anything. How long does it usually take for a snake to digest a rat? It was about 3/4 digested. Really gross... back to clean up, I go!
