    Melamime Enclosures & Light Bulbs

Tomorrow, I am getting two new bps with their enclosures. They are custom made wood with melamime on the inside. These tanks are fitted with a fixture for a bulb on the inside. This concerns me because everything I've read says to keep your snake away from bulbs so that they don't get burned. This doesn't seem to be an issue for these snakes and their current owner, as it's what they've been housed in, but I want to make sure that they don't get burned in my care. Should I nix the bulb and go with something else? Would it be ok to craft a "cage" for the bulb, to at least keep the snakes from touching it directly? Or should I stop worrying, and use the enclosure as is? lol!

Also, these snakes do not have belly heat in the form of a uth. The current owner has some uths that he's giving me, so I can set them up with tile, if needed (yes, I know to ALWAYS use a thermostat with a uth)....

I will work on getting a pic or two from what I've already been sent. I can post more pictures later, once I bring them home.

Best pic I have as of now. You can't see the bulb, so this is pretty much non-informative, but it gives you the idea.

I would nix the bare bulb idea as BP's don't need light and yes those are dangerous. If you do want an interior "task light" you can install a small LED dome-type light that doesn't get hot.

For heat I would put in a small RHP.

Thanks. I have read some about RHP and will look into it further. I like the task light idea...
