Please help humidity problem, really starting to get scared

ok so ive owned a bp for a lil over a month now, and hes shed once and it was problematic had to soak twice and let him slither through a warm town so i could help him get his old skin off. now i know my problem is my humidity and i see how to add photos, just registered today so still new to this. but ive tried a few fixes to keep humidity up but it dosnt seem to help, covered most of the screen top with damp towels helped a lil but not enough, heard aluminum foil would help better so i have that on the top right now, misting is now automatic due to the monsoon unit i bought a few days after the bad shed. had it set to run every 4 hours for 2 mins, one it didnt help humidity too much and two when i cleaned he cage there was a good amount of water underneath his beding which im assuming is very bad and can lead to respiratory infection, so i dropped it to 30 secs every 4 hours. have the uth and a heat lamp which i know takes away but i also live in vegas so im fighting that too "its a dry heat" lol. the only thing that really seems to help is a moist hide not sure if this is a good idea but i have a small hid in center of his cage with damp moss that i mist daily, anyways im really starting to stress, ive only had a short while and i already love him to death and hes just my lil badass. cant figure out how to upload a pic so if you guys need them need help on that, btw the beding is reptibark, went to that after i was told it held humidity better then the aspen

Humidity can be the biggest issue for most especially with a tank set up. The monsoon obviously was not the right idea as you're right you don't need standing water in the tank under the substrate. I'd say the humid hid box may be your best option, I use them in the winter months here in NC, the rest of the year I don't have the issues you guys in NV have. They are cheap, only a few bucks for those cheap Tupper Ware type containers and some moss.
    Cheers, Jeff

If you have a glass tank and open screen top, that's going to make things difficult. But what we do with ours is place the water bowl under the heat lamp - it helps with the humidity a ton. Keeping towels over the side that doesn't have the heat lamp is good. Remember it's always a little more humid and warm in his hide than the rest of the cage, but depending on how much water is in there..if it's just a little I wouldn't worry. If it's a puddle your humidity is too high. Do you have a humidity measure?

yea i have two, one for the cold/humid side and one on the hot/dry. if i could figure out the pic thing i could show you its a pretty big tank for his size but i was told if i had enough hides it wouldnt stress him to bad, i have 3 including the moist hide wich is in the middle and then a hid on each side. he seems to prefer the cold/humid side and the moist hide especially after his meal, tho he does travel alot to the warm side after a few hours after eatting, i have kept his heat lamp quite a bit keeping up the humidity, but if it drops below 80 on the hot side i flick it back on. and i really hope i didnt get the mister for nothing, was a hefty chunk of cash

Thumbs up Re: Please help humidity problem, really starting to get scared

What is the gallon size of the tank? You can solve the whole humidity issue if you invest in a "versa top". It will also help to boost your ambient tank temperatures. It's a folding glass top that comes with a plastic attachment that slides onto the glass panes. You will need to make holes in the plastic part to facilitate ventilation. I used them on all my tanks before I switched to racks.
Stay in peace and not pieces.

Here is a suggestion that I would recommend because it helps with humidity.. until recently I converted to a rack system but before that I had always been a tank person.. I enjoy seeing my snakes with a nice looking set up.. What I did that helps a lot and beings I work for home depot i'm able to come up with idea's better. So go in to your local home depot and in the Lumber/Building materials department they carry 1/2 4x8 polystyrene (styra-foam). Cut the sheet to make 2 sides and 1 back and use duck tape to tape them on the sides and back. I taped around the whole tank on the top and bottom edges, as well as taping the seams. When I did this as well as covering the top with a dry towel and placed the water bowl below the heat lamp I was able to keep the humidity between 35 -50% it did vary at times due to weather and time of year.. You could try this in addition to other suggestions. Hopefully this helps..

Re: Please help humidity problem, really starting to get scared

We have a 55 gallon "fish tank" with a screen top. The heat lamp is in the middle with maybe 1/2 inch extra cut out of the tin foil. A small (2 inch x 2 inch) square cut out of the tin foil on his cool side. This set up supposedly helps with air flow.
A water dish sits 3/4 of the way under the heat lamp. His warm hide is right next to that water dish. Then I bought sphagnum moss from the pet store and soaked it (squeezed out excess water) and stuck it into small disposable cups. I had 4 in his tank, two by the warm hid (near the heat lamp) and two by the cold hide. The cups look like the Dixie brand cups but are all plastic. Think clear miniature "red solo cups". Found them at Walmart by the trash bags and disposable silverware. The moss stayed damp for about 3-4 days once the humidity got up to 60 or so. Hope this helps. Loading pics on this website is kind of tricky.

im not sure what gallon tank it is, i started of with just a 20 gallon but shortly after bringing him home my uncle decided to buy me a the exo-terra large wide tank not even sure the dimensions ill have to measue it so i dont know if the versa top would work since the top with this cage locks into place. but the cup idea seems it would help. my ex's cousin also came over today and said i dont have enough foil on, had about 50 covered due to his light and heat lamp on the back half but there is maybe another 1/4 i can cover up. and also the (styra-foam) idea seems very inguenios so im going to tinker a lil today and tomorrow and i will let you guys know the results. thank you guys so much all the ideas are awsome and ill probly end up using a combination of these. the versa-top sounds the best just not sure if it would work on my tank

Are you putting anything on top of your screen top to keep the warmth and humidity inside the tank? I used a roll of heat tape to cover the top, and cut out holes for the 2 heat lamps.
