The dollar store usually has some nice crock dishes meant for dogs that work pretty well for my snakes. The smallest I've picked up were about 5 inches across and fit in shoebox tubs though they take up about half the space.

This. They also have small melamine bowls, and since the base is wider than the actual bowl they're very stable.

Some people also use the glass star-shaped tea-light candle holders, they're two for $1. Also the candy or potpourri bowls, since they have a wide, heavy base and straight sides, have been recommended for larger snakes.

I had a pet store go out of business nearby and I picked up a ton of these for 50 cents each. If it wasn't for having these, I would be going the coupling and 2oz deli cups just like my adults get.
