Smile Wanting to double (triple?) check my husbandry with experienced owners...

    Hey everybody

Got my 1st BP last Tuesday & so far so good, I think. He's a Special morph, hatch date 10/28/14. His warm side under his hide ranges from 91°-93°. Warm side not above th UTH is sitting around 88°. Cool side is about 75-76°. Humidity is 55%. Sound good to everybody?

Also, I decided to try feeding him last night. Since this is my 1st BP, when he went to strike, it was so fast it scared th crap out of me & I dropped th mouse several times, even though I used tongs. Long story short, I was discouraged that he seemed to lose interest but decided to leave th mouse on the piece of driftwood in his tank. I went back in to check after 30 minutes or so & the mouse was gone! I said 'phew, thank God!'

I also have a shipment of rat fuzzies & rat pups that should be here by Tuesday & will feed him again Thursday.

I will post pics of him as soon as I can, which will probably be Tuesday. Since he just ate I don't want to handle him, not even for a photo shoot

Hi and welcome! A photo of your enclosure would be helpful.

Now for a couple of questions. Hoe are you heating his enclosure? How are you measuring your temperaures? And most importantly, is your UTH controlled by a thermostat?

Your cool side is a little bit too cool. Usually if it's that low, it will drop even lower at night so you might want to raise it to at least 78.

I have a UTH on one side & a heat lamp on the other (using a nighttime blue bulb in it)

That pic probably isn't the best but yes I am using a thermostat for the UTH & using digital thermometers/hygrometer.

    Thermostat for UTH:

    Warm side w/humidity:

Cool side w/heat lamp, temp reads 78.5 or 78.6

Im a bit confused... Do you just have the probe on the glass measuring the warm temp?

From what it looks like to me, your ambient temperature i the tank could be very low. The reason is, the UTH only heats up the botton but not the air. And if your ambient temp is at 78 under the heat lamp, it's probably a lot lower on the UTH side.

Th probe for th thermostat/UTH is in his warm hide. All probes are at ground level of th tank, while the displays are closer to the top where its easier for me to read

I think you need a better reading of your ambient temp because the temps you're getting from your warm side are skewed by the warmth of the UTH. You should measure your ambient temps.

What i would recommend is getting a stand-alone thermometer and putting it on the warm side of the terrarium. Sort of like this one:
0.1 Reg. BP Het. Albino (Faye),
    1.0 Albino BP (Henry),
0.1 Pastave BP Het. Pied (Kira)
    1.0 Pied BP (Sam)
    1.0 Bumble Bee BP (Izzy)

Your local hardware store or maybe Walmart. I think i spent $10 bucks on this. Doesn't need to be anything too fancy.
