BPnet Veteran
Worth a vet visit?
Got a female bp at about 800g who should be significantly fatter but hadn't really been eating more than once or twice all winter, which is fairly common for my females I've learned.
Anyway she seemed sluggish (by normal bp standards) and I was gonna have my vet stop by, but then she decided to eat a good sized frozen rat so I figured she was probably just being picky and canceled the appt.
That was a couple of weeks ago, and I've tried feeding her once since, but nobody ate that week so it must have been an "off" day.
Anyway, I'm worried now cause I've seen her out of her hide a bunch during the day, and she seems to be spending more time with her water bowl than usual. I noticed she drank (or possibly splashed out) a bunch of her water, and as I speak she's poking about up near her enclosure lights with part of her body draped in the water bowl. A few minutes ago she was resting her neck just below her head in the water for a couple of minutes as well.
She's in an AP T8 93 in the hottest spot 81 on the cool end (where she usually stays) 45% humidity right now.
Should I have my vet stop by you guys think or maybe just try feeding again early next week and see how it goes?
Thanks all! Sorry I haven't been on here much, actually been busy taking prereq classes to go to vet school myself!

Re: Worth a vet visit?
I would try dropping her temps a degree or two and see if her behavior doesn't change. Also check for mites.

What BCR said. I encountered this the other day when my appt temp rose and her light didn't kick off. I was super confused why she got in her bowl. Second thought on soaking would be mites, but I would drop temps first

First 93 seems high, I prefer a 90 hot spot. Also, I have a Clown that every week or two just goes to town. Lays all over, checks everything out. No mites checked the temps, all was good. Also had a Silverstreak pin that was similar. I have six identical tanks. I really never see the others. But there has been one or two that have been very active. I also have all my tanks in the main room of my house (in other words I pretty much see them all the time). Yes, I've noticed some balls are more active then others. Hope this helps.
