4$ DIY snake hook. No tools required.

I know there are quite a few DIY hook tutorials out there, but this popped into my brain tonight and it couldn't be more simple.

I was recently considering buying another snake hook. I'm going on a trip and intend to attempt field herping but did not want to bring my hook from home in the event that someone should need to use it. Contemplating my options, I look into the back seat of my car and see this

A camp fork I had purchased last summer for around 4 dollars at walmart.

Essentially I just used my body weight to break the metal at the base of the prongs, and proceeded to make a 90 degree bend at the end of the rod. This is what I ended up with.

Use some sand paper or a file to remove any sharp edges.

Primitive, but I'm sure it will work.
