Creating a new terrarium

So I am designing a new terrarium this summer and I'm curious as to what can be used. If I paper mâché and paint it is that fine once it dries? What about humidity affecting it. Anyone done this before? Also the new terrarium will be that of an old aquarium so the top I want to put a screen of some sort instead of glass. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do so or suggestions on ways of 'clipping' it down. Holding it down but I'm hoping to figure out a way to be able to take it on and off sorta thing.

Honestly I just wouldn't do that at all and buy an enclosure built for a snake and customize it how you see fit. Screen tops are terrible at holding humidity.

Most screen top terrariums have door as the front that unlock and open, why don't you take a look at some of the results on Google for some inspiration? Also, as said above - screen tops are horrible when it comes to holding in humidity, but it can be done (obviously). Check out some of the replies in this thread for some ideas. Although covering the screen top does defeat the object of having one...

Most acrylic paints are non-toxic when dry, so that should be fine. I doubt paper mâché would hold up very long in a humid enclosure, though. A lot of people use carved polystyrene foam for custom enclosures, but I guess it depends what you're trying to do with it.

Well terrariums are expensive. I currently own one of those screen top with front door opening terrariums but I got this huge aquarium for free and I thought it would make an awesome tank for my girl. I was also thinking maybe plastic top like a lid with drilled holes but it's a matter of how to hold it down that I'm struggling with. The paper mâché info is very helpful. I'll look into polystyrene.
