My bp fed just now and two things happened that I have not seen before. (Note, I've only had her three weeks so this is her third feeding with me)
1) She squeezed poo out of the rat and I'm sure she managed to get some on her. Brutal, gross, and yes I wiped it off the repticarpet with hot water and a towel. Will change the carpet tomorrow. (Don't want to stress her by moving her right after she's eaten.)
2) Once the rat was dead and she uncoiled a bit to start swallowing, I noticed blood on the rat's head and in the corner of Matilda's (the snake) mouth and a little smeared on her side further down her body. (I'm kinda wondering if she maybe burst one of the rat's eyeballs....super metal. Love snakes.)
I watched the whole kill and watched her swallow the entire thing so I know it was a clean strike. I even filmed it in slow motion (220 fps) because I'm just weird like that and I think it's cool. So I know she caught the rat right on the side of the face and I'm 100% certain the rat didn't bite or scratch her. Matilda is now in her warm hide with just her head sticking out but I can still see a wee bit of blood in the corner of her mouth. But its not spreading or dripping or anything like that. So can I rest assured that the blood was from the rat? Should I clean the blood off the side of her body now or should I give her some time to start digesting before I disturb her? Thanks in advance!
