Probably a stupid question, "false" sheds ?
Walter had shed just prior to me getting him, first four feedings went flawless and I thought everything was going perfect. Had done my research and I think my husbandry is pretty spot on. His 5th feeding he wouldn't strike but did eat the f/t fuzzy rat I left in his tank. 6th feeding he refused and left rat was not eaten. Then he spent pretty much a solid week in his cool hide and to my knowledge never came out and I figured he was getting ready to shed as I would think he was due but no physical signs he was going in shed. So last night I get home and go down to check on him and he's out of his hide and hanging out on his stump, last night was feeding night. When I go to feed him later he's back in his hide but comes out and slams the rat and coils like he used to do.
For that week to 10 days he sure acted like he was going into shed, has it ever been known for them to do that and then NOT shed? Only other thing I can think of as a cause for his behavior change is maybe I was handling him too much, I haven't done so in a week and he seems to be now back to how he was. He's never struck at me but does seem extremely timid and scared when I first get him out. Either that or he's just plain screwing with my mind and doing a pretty good job at it.

What makes you associate the above behaviors with going into shed? It sounds to me like it's just a BP doing what a BP does - hanging out in his hide, every now and again missing a meal, not being very active, etc, etc, etc. Personally, I'd associate his behavior with him becoming more comfortable in his enclosure - especially since he's back to slamming rats again.
Honestly, it sounds like you've got some "helicopter parent syndrome" going on and you're over-thinking the little things. Keep being observant, and keep asking questions, but try not to stress yourself out too much.

Well two things, first I just think from what Ive gathered reading on here that at 7 weeks and him being about 9 months old he's probably due to shed soon. Second I'm comparing (and wrongly so) that his behavior was just like what my daughters corn snake does when he goes in shed.
Sure won't argue with over thinking things, I'm not new to snakes but this is my first BP and I guess I'm just going to have to learn to relax and accept they are goofy sometimes. Thanks for the reply, just trying to do everything right and try and understand this guy.

I agree with the other poster. Sounds like he's just getting comfortable in his environment. You're definitely doing right by your bp so kudos for being so observant. I know with my guy he'll shed after every two feedings and he'll do the same thing as yours: hide in his hut while his body does its thing for shedding. I'm also a textbook worry wart myself. So I know what that's like to question every little thing.
