Fell in love with a snake!

I was given a classroom pet grant and decided to go for a snake. After I moved from 5th to 1st grade, my principal asked that I take my king snake home. I ignored him for six months, wasn't really interested, I fed him and cleaned his cage with some fear. I keep leopard geckos and tarantulas, but I've never had a snake.

Somewhere along the line, I noticed him growing so much and I realized that I had never handled him once! He escaped one day while I was cleaning, and I used a tub to catch him. I then realized that I needed to begin handling him and interacting with him more.

Here is a photo of Smithers! I've fallen in love.

I've become so obsessed with this awesome animal and my local exotic pet store finally had Nelson's Milk Snakes in stock. I've wanted one for weeks! Here she is, her name is Gams.

I never thought that I would be apprehensive about handling snakes. I mean, my dad owned several while I was growing up! Being away from them so long, I became afraid of them again. Not anymore!

So glad I didn't sell Smithers, so glad that Gams is in my life! I wanted a ball python, but I can wait until I master the two of these.

I'm surprised that Petsmart had an aberrant king, very cute. I'm disappointed that my local pet store was keeping my milk snake on sand, though! Grrrr.

    very nice

I too was a bit afraid to handle my first snake, liked the colors and biology of them, but the thrill you get from handling, and feeling them moving around when holding them was what hooked me.

Thumbs up Re: Fell in love with a snake!

Amazing Nelsons and a good looking cal king also. Two nice rodent killers. Make sure to keep them in separate enclosures.
