    Pictures and wheezing

So, today being 4 days after feeding I figured it would be a good time to take Monty out. She was fine, but about 15 minutes into holding her I heard the same wheezing sound as last time. I already took her to the vet who had said there wasn't any sign of an RI, but me being the concerned mom I am (I have no children, only Monty), I'm still kind of worried. The vet I went to is kind of a moron, but the only herp vet for like 30 miles, and when you don't have a car, that's quite a ways. My sister kind of knows how to check for an RI, but I don't want to stress Monty out. Any suggestions? Also, it seems like she's not really shedding as much as usual. Based on her shed record, she was due for a shed for the past month, but nothing. I got attacked by a cat who was trying to get at her.

Thumbs up Re: Pictures and wheezing

Thanks for the pics, Monty is cute. How long ago were you at the vet? If its been a short period of time I would take him back. In the meantime why don't you start to bump up his enclosure temps until you can get a appointment? Is he feeding or not?

She is larger now, sheds tend to come less and less as they grow. My ball pythons as adults will only shed once every 3 or 4 months. One did not shed for 6 months, so I would not be concerned about that if her skin is normal and she is eating fine.

Also, snakes wheeze. More like a loud whistle like exhale of breath through the nose, if that makes any sense. If it happens a lot and you notice her gaping and a lot of mucus in her mouth and nostrils accompanied with the wheezing, then is the time to be concerned, but wheezing is not something to panic about unless other symptoms are present. It never hurts to get checked and honestly, a vet would not be a vet if they did not know what they are doing. They also spend a few extra years at vet school to become an exotic vet so they are better trained. But that is a choice you need to make.

    Re: Pictures and wheezing

I will make another vet appointment.. She had no other symptoms of an RI, but I'm like a new mom. Very overly protective of my baby. It does sound a lot like a loud whistle. She is eating just fine like clockwork. Has never gone off feed. I don't think she's quite as old as her previous owner told me, so I think she was still growing.
