T8,t10
Hello all, This is my first post and don't have a ball python yet. I hope I post this in the right place. I want to ask the owners of the animal plastics enclosures what options they get with their enclosures? What is the most desirable setup? How do you run your enclosure? I have a reef tank and that was a tough thing to get going. What I learned through that experience is to be a successful pet owner you must learn from successful pet owners. I come to you as a beginner that is ready to learn.Thank you for your time.

T8 vs T10 is up to you. The only difference is that the T10 is 3" taller, which some people prefer when it comes to maintenance tasks.
As far as setup, there's a huge thread dedicated to this topic: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...With-Pictures!. Happy reading!

Re: T8,t10
I personally like my T10 over the T8 just because it's easier to clean. Believe it or not but it does make a difference.
In regards to heating, I use Reptile Basics 80 watt RHP (radient heat panel) controlled by a Herpstat thermostat. If you mount the RHP to one side, you can create a heat gradience for your BP.
The top one is the T8 and the bottom one is thr T10.

Nice natural looking cages Mr Misha. I feel lazy now lol. I keep all my snakes in in the minimalist set ups with aspen, 2 RBI hides and a water dish. My baby sunglow has climbing perches I made for her out of pvc pipes. Lol I think we are using the same water bowls. Zoo Med extra large? And I do the same thing Mr Misha does as far as the RHP except I'm using that in a Pro-Line 48x23x14 HDPE cage. Wow whats that cage on the left side of the picture? That's almost as tall as both the T10 and T8.

Don't feel lazy. It's a pain to wash so im glad I only fully clean the enclosures once a month. Otherwise I just spot clean.
You're absolutely right on the water bowls. My local reptile shop sells them plus they look a bit better than dog bowls.
On the left is the T12. It's 48x24x24. I found it for a steal deal on Craig's List in my area. The guy was getting out of the hobby and used to have his Boa in there.

Oh nice. I like that size. Heating it with a RHP solely? Have problems? I'd like to get one of those for my sunglow BCI to give her some climbing room as she seems to like to climb. I do full cleans once a month too. Kind of why I went minimalist, makes it easy to grab the hides and waterbowl and then just throw out the aspen and vacuum the cage floor. Then just Chlorhexadine the whole thing, dry it off and throw aspen and hides and water bowl back in. You ever ran into or heard issues with used cages as far as sanitation goes? I found 2 421D Boaphiles on my CL for $120 each and I was going to snatch them up but then I remember reading how Boaphiles hold snake piss stains and poop stains so I was worried about harmful bacteria for my snakes. Yeah I'm probably being paranoid but im kind of OCD about my pets. Maybe that is why I have never had to deal with mites in over 20 years of keeping reptiles Anyways, clean looking set up. I like those little tables too.

I have the T12 split in half heated by two RHPs so i'd recommend at a 80 watt RHP. I'd probably even go higher depending on how cold the room gets. Haven't had any problems with heating whatsoever but I only use the RHPs to provide ambient heat only.
I don't. Know about other enclosures, but with Animal Plastics as long as you properly clean them you should be fine.

Ok cool. I keep my house around 75F a RHP should be fine alone. And yeah if I go for something like that, I'd probably just go with a 120 watt. Better to have too much and not need it than too little especially in winter. Thanks.

I run my RHP on one side and then dangle the Herpstat probe about 3 inches to the left of the RHP(my warm side is the left side) and about 2 inches from the aspen floor so Rosey cant sit on the probe. I then dial in the Herpstat until I get the temps I want under the RHP and on the cool side using my temp gun. For my Pro-Line 48x23x14 HDPE cage in a 75F room, I set the Herpstat to 87F. I personally would not use it in the center as that wouldn't provide a cool side for the snake to retreat to if he/she wanted to cool down.
