    Large rat too big?

    My female is 1700g and my local pet store only has large frozen rats when I usually give her medium. Will she be okay with a large?

    Shouldn't be an issue, the rule of thumb normally used is no wider than the largest point on the body. But even then I normally cut back a little so I aren't pushing it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I own:
    1.0 Reduced Normal Ball Python [Peter]
    0.1 Harlequin Crestie [Amelia]
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The other half owns:
    1.0 Orange Dalmatian Crestie [Archie]
    0.1 Golden Dalmatian Crestie [Banana]

    That depends on how large their large are. I can not began to guess without seeing both the snake and the rat.

    I agree with KMG on that one. Also the post that mentioned only as wide as the largest part of the mid body also. A medium rat size can vary from distributor to distributor. You really have to look at your bp and make a decision based on the bp body circumference. This makes me think about something I heard a long time ago and that is a "adult ball python can survive on medium sized rats all of its life". You can always adjust the frequency of his feedings but this is just a IMO. Good luck.

    I know that Gourmet Rodents (petco brand) large rats are 180-200 grams a piece. Should be fine. My ball has been eating large rats since my local store stopped receiving mediums. She is about 1675g.
