Eye caps how bad to wait?
Okay my new cinnamon has eyecap retention.Ive soaked her, rubbed them with a wet qtip, used tape(that was kind of scary).I even left her in a very humid tub overnight.
But they are stuck fast. How bad is it to leave them till next shed? I feel like ive stressed her out enough.
Im sure its eye caps because her eyes are larger then normal(poking out so to speak) and I can see wrinkles(almost looks like scales over both eyes) but they are clear..I tell you she was sooo patient with me, im really surprised I didnt get bit.
Ive had corns with stuck eye caps and never had this much trouble getting them off.

Re: Eye caps how bad to wait?
Lot of eyecap issues lately.
Tape?
Does anyone with experience ever recommend this?
Miranda...not trying to insult you by asking, please don't take it that way.

The only time I've heard of the tape method being used is when it's very loose, and it's difficult to pinch off, and you don't have tweezers. I've never used it myself.
I just bought some tweezers for whenever I get eyecap problems. Soak to loosen it up, then pull of with tweezers. It's pretty easy to do it yourself if you're confident you can control the snake's head from jerking around, but if you're not, perhaps you should have someone help by having them hold the body while you hold the head.
This may be pretty difficult to get, but perhaps getting a picture for us would help us identify it's indeed an eye cap. Sometimes when humidity is inadequate, their eyes will get dents in them, and these have been mistaken for eye caps in the past... If the snake is continuing to eat, just keep feeding til the next shed, and make sure you bump the humidity. I've done this for exceptionally difficult eye caps with no problem.

Our exotic vet has said to wait until Ginger's next shed. He's seen lots of snakes blinded by owners using tape and other homemade cures.

Your vet is smart. There is no harm in waiting. Keep the humidity up and let the snake deal with it during the next shed.

I got her on tuesday, she came to me with stuck shed. I did get the retained shed off but not the eye caps. I didnt pull her eyes off or anything I was very careful to see if they would come loose with the tape.I wont use tweezers or anything sharp either.
Her eyes arent dented, but bulge out more then normal and just dont look normal. Im going to let her rest for a few days and then get a picture, I dont want to stress her out anymore for awhile since she is so new.
