Hi. I like my melamine rack very much and I am very proud of my work (even if its a little uneven). However, it was made for leopard geckos but that is something that never happened. now all i can think of is that my snakes will be growing soon and will need more space, so I have decided I will buy one of those plastic shelving units that some people use. Im going to get new flexwatt and all that. My questions:
How would I go about insulating the rack, as the sides are open on these plastic shelving units? I am thinking of getting insulating foam and cutting it to fit all sides, and then getting something thin like white board to put over the sides just for aesthetics. would the insulating foam be enough, or would i also need the white board over that? its getting cold at night and their temps drop to 75 without me covering their current rack with a towel or aiming a red infrared light at the opening of it and i would like to not have to do this.
Second question:
How should I do my heat tape? I plan on having up to five ball pythons at some point and their babies as well, so rather than just heat two shelves right now, id rather heat them all. should I wire in parallel with 11" flexwatt, or should I snake this through each shelf? also is it safe to wire like seven 11" strips of flexwatt in parallel and then hook it up to a herpstat 1, or is that too much? I use belly heat btw.
