Scales

Picked up my snake today and found that some of her scales were bent. I'm not sure what it means. One of the hides in her tank is a little small for her, but she is always in it.

She may just be coming up to a shed.

I'm by no means an expert on snakes at all but is there anything sharp or super rough? Like if she were to rub against it and then move backwards really fast

The only thing I can think of is the hide, but I took it out.

As long as there are hard objects in their environment, and considering the twisted positions they get into, it's no wonder. That's why the scales are flexible.

I would say it is the hide. you see bent scales like that on larger snakes kept in too small enclosures. A little bigger hide will probably fix it.

I can't tell in the picture but I've seen cases at pet shops that have ball pythons and their scales will be lifted a little and they will be covered in mites. I don't see any dark spots so I think you and your snake is fine but to be safe I'd look very closely for mites. Normally they are smaller than the tip of a pen and will get between their scales. They will also get them in their heat pits as its easy access for the mites. If you don't see anything like that I wouldn't be concerned. Beautiful snake by the way!

Mine has got a little rough like that right before a shed with the humidity a little low, especially if the last shed was a little rough. As long as the temps and humidity are right, and there is no discoloration other than a temporary slight pink belly, she'll be good as new after the upcoming shed.

She just shed and still has the bent scales. Not sure what to think.
