Temp probe location??

Where do ya'll place your temp probes in the tank. I got a glass fish tank that I'm using. In the very bottom I have paper towels to soak up the liquids then on top of that I have the Repti carpet. I got my temp probes between the Repti carpet and the paper towels. Is that ok, or should I put it on top of the carpet??? Thanks.

Well if the snake is going to be on the carpet i would put it on the carpet where the snake is. If the snake isnt going to be under the carpet then it really serves no purpose.

If the snake burrows then it would be a good idea to put it under the carpet.

well, i disagree because your snake could potentially burrow down to the papertowel. or push around the bark. mine does this all the time. i would put it as far down as he can get to so he can never potentially burn himself. so i think where you are measuring from is probably good.

I'd put it on top of the carpet unless you see your snake burrowing beneath, because what you need to know is the temps your snake *is* experiencing, not what temps your snake *could* experience.

If your snake does go under the carpet then leave the probe where it is. But if he can't (my bp is on carpet, but he has so many hides/deco that weigh down the carpet preventing him from going underneath) then you need to measure on top of the carpet where your bp is.

Just like some others above, i keep my temp probe on top of the substrate. Neither of my bp's are burrowers, so i measure the temps where they are. If they were burrowers all the time i would probably think about moving my temp probe location.

mine is just so fat that he just pushes the substrate around wether he is trying to or not.

If you keep the probe under the carpet then set it on top for a couple minutes and see what the difference is. If you notice that the surface is 1 to 4 degrees or so cooler, then put it back where you like it and remeber that the snake is getting a couple degrees less than what it reads when between the layers. Shouldn't be a big deal, more a matter of preference.
