This is moderately related to the thread on The Real World. I am taking a Sociology of Education class for an upper leval elective. We are studying different means to teach people things. I have the opportunity to teach my class the true nature of constricting snakes through actual hands on learning from one who knows and it is practical. We are to teach what we know, but not lecture, so I am bringing Kitty in and taking the class much beyond what we all got to see from the animal guy in elementary school and the reptile room at the zoo. I am so excited. I get the opportunity to dispell many misconceptions about snakes and thier behaviors, as well as thier diets, needs, enviromnents and so on. I am so excited. There are so many negative images of snakes in the media such as the real world, and so many who mistreat them without punishment. I am so excited. I only have 10 minutes though, does anyone want to help me write my lesson plan? Post now

Maybe you could demonstrate a feeding? If not actually feeding the snake in the classroom (which would be pretty stressful) maybe you could videotape a feeding and show it to the class?

Well first, you could talk to them about the bone structure of snakes, and that they actually have alot of bones (alot of people think they don't have any). Then, you could talk about the constriction, and demonstrate by wrapping him around your neck (if he isn't too big). Then you could talk about their heat pits, and how they sense their prey. Then you could tell them that they are harmless to human, and let each one who wants to pet, or hold it for a brief time.

You could also mention that they roll into a ball when feel threatened, rather than trying to kill you. LOL. And you could print a pictre of one rolled in a ball.

yeah, I hope this goes over well. I tend to get very excited when I talk about my baby, couple that with being a little bit nervous and it may be a mess
