I've just purchased a brand new white Python digital thermometer.. And that is reading the temp to be about 91f but my temp gun I've had for about 2 years new battery is telling me 97f so which do I trust?

(My snake is not in the enclosure)

The accuracy of that thermometer looks to be +/- 2C (+/- 3.6F), meaning that it could be as high as 94.6F and still be considered correct. Do you know the accuracy of your temp gun? If it has a similar accuracy to the new thermometer, you're probably around 94F in there.

So yeah - likely right around 94F. The overlapping range is 94.3 to 94.6.

Neither are exactly accurate, but it's possible for both to be "right" according to their specifications.

You don't really need them to be much more accurate than that. Just turn down your heat a couple degrees until you get a reading that's low enough for the high end of the accuracy range to still be safe.

Ok so I'm going to aim for the thermometer to be around 89F hopefully the temp gun will also lower.. Thank you for the help!

Perfect. That's one of the reasons that I shoot for ~90F in my enclosures. Glad I could assist!

This may seem strange but put the probe in your mouth. You know the human body runs at a perfect 98.6 so its a good baseline. Once you see how it reads then you can adjust accordingly.
