    Lightbulb Terrarium background

I just purchased my first ball python a few days ago. I have read various forums and caresheets on their enclosures and how to set it up.

I have read that an open glass tank can make them nervous and feel a little unsafe so I wanted to paint the back and sides with black glass paint but I am not sure if this is safe (even if the paint is on the outside).

    Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Re: Terrarium background

I wouldn't personally, for no other reason than those fumes are nasty and it may come off when cleaning. There are a lot of cage backgrounds out there that just static cling to the glass. I would get one of those, or fabric, you could tape fabric to the outside of the glass which would have the same effect.

Paint would be fine if you did it without the snake in it, of course, and gave it plenty of time to dry. And painted the outside only, of course.

Another option that I've done is just picked up some black construction paper or poster board and cut it to size and taped it on the outside. That made for a nice dark background and helped the snake and interior elements pop.

Or you can do like my daughters did and buy these Background Clings and stick them on the outside:

They make their tanks look cool.

I think you can get this at any chain pet store. Was already on the tank when I got it, taped on from the outside.

Local pet shop sells different backgrounds on rolls and you pay by the foot. Enough to easily wrap 3 sides of enclosure was around $10.

    Re: Terrarium background

You can make your own interesting backgrounds by choosing a photo, yours or one you find online, and have it printed out professionally. They have all sorts of sizes available online. You can go very natural looking, or go outlandish and fun.

Its kind of difficult to see, but that was the idea. heres a garter baby of mine, in real leaves in her tank, and it blends with the pic i chose of forest floor.
