    Exclamation Herpstat power issues

    Hey guys
i have a Herpstat 2 that I bought less than 2 months ago and it was working good
bug today when i checked my BPs rack i noticed that the power is changing constantly,
    it goes from
40% to 80% and from 80% to 100% and then it goes all the way back to 0% its marking all this in less than a minute

is it normal that my herpstat is acting like this or is something wrong ??

    please help mee

Sounds like it's on the proportional setting rather than the on/off setting.

I've never used them but is it possible you have set the temp variance too tightly?

It sounds pretty normal to me. Proportional setting will vary the power as needed to keep your set temperature (there are no variance settings in proportional mode). As long as the temp itself is steady, it's doing its job.

Mine fluctuates all the time anywhere from 100% to 0% for my RHP depending on the power need. That's normal for a proportional thermostat. You really only need to worry if it stays at 100% for hours and hours and hours which will probably mean your heat source is too small to achieve the temp you have it set for and you will need to up the heat source.

Or your probe has moved and your heat source is unknowingly trying to raise the temperature of the entire room/enclosure.

This is my thought exactly. If it's going from 0% to 100% and back to 0% then something is wrong. Check the probe and make sure that it's not moving around.

You took my reply out of context, but it's still worth checking I suppose.

If you are referring to me, there is nothing wrong and my probe isn't moving. Mines been set up for almost 2 years like that. My point was they will bounce like that. Like looking at mine right now, its set to 87 degrees and its running at 78% power. Now it drops to 86.9 and its ramped up to 80% power, now 83% power. Then it hits 87.1 and it will drop to 0% power. Then once it cools down 0.1%, it will jump up to 100% power for a few secs, then down to 76% and you get the idea. My point was they normally will jump around.

I think what Eric was referring to was if it moves as in your snake buries it with his body under substrate, then it will run forever trying to heat that substrate, or if your snake lays on the probe, it will try to heat forever also. Or of it somehow gets moved across the cage. Mine cant do that though as its through a hole on the left side of the cage(hot side) and its rigged so it can only swing if the snake bumps it while crawling around.
