I'm removing my tree perch and adding some removable ones. H ed re is what I came up with. Will this work? Also is 7" from the tip of the tank too close to the light?

My top perch is my guy's favorite and it is probably 7-9 inches from the rhp. This is controlled by a Herpstat and I create his ideal hotspot on the top perch. If the lamp is for heat you are going to need to monitor and dial it in before putting your gtp in the cage. I don't know how you have it set up but I would only use a tstat for a gtp because of how delicate they are. I would not trust using a dimmer as they can have a wide fluctuation with changing room temps.

There are also other factors that go into the placement of the perches like the overall height of the cage. I would have three perches divided evenly at three different levels moving up toward the heat source.

When it comes to your tstat probe do not make the mistake of mounting it to the perch. This mounting position will make it easy for your snake to lay on it and block it from receiving the heat from the heat source so the tstat will think it is cold and ramp up the power. You can hang it or mount it to the rim of the heat source. I mount mine to the rim of the rhp with super glue and a cable strap. It looks as if the probe is touching the rhp but it is not. Do not allow the probe to touch the heat source, especially a lamp as it will likely melt it.


The bamboo should work great but the only thing that Im not sure of is the amount it may shrink as it dries out. I don't have any experience with that. My perches are pvc.

I have hit the hot spot with my temp gun and it is 88 at the hot spot and 73 on the cold side. The controller turns it off if it get hotter than +- 88 is that ok?

Yep that's good but if it were me I would lower it a bit so the hotspot does not get over 88.
