    New bp in blue questions

Finally got my new bp last night, so happy shes goregeous! Got her from a really nice guy in the local herp community, shes a 2013 pastel girl. Surprised she took to being handled so well, she wasnt even head shy at all!!

I have a glass terrarium so shes coming from a tub so shes going to have to get used to that but im sure she will fare alright. I did notice her getting a bit sketched out last night before bed, ive been strughling with humidity...so been spraying to keep it up to 70-80%. Checked it a few hours before bed and noticed it was 34 I was like eeeek. So had to go in and spray...felt bad..she was exploring and really didnt want to disturb her on her first night exploring but didnt want her to spend the night dried out...so went in and sprayed...since shes basically blind from blue she of course didnt like it much and quickly went into her hide..sadly hasnt came back out all freaking night or day today...lol. im such a big meany.... ive been struggling so hard with this humidity issue which im sure u ppl read about a ****ton. I honestly think ive sprayed like 8 times today since ive woke up and im already sick of it lol. But I dont want to use a tub... I will def invest in a diy humidifier VERY soon.

My question comes down to the moisture issues and husbandry part...
Since having to spray the tank so often im concerned with moisture on the blue shop paper towels when they get wet...how often should I be removing and replacing them...im sure they dont mould as fast as say...mulch or aspen or something but since everything in the tank is getting thouroughly sprayed down moisture concerns me...I fear going into the tank to bug her since its recommended not to bother her for a week or so since ive just aquired her.

The guy I got her from suggested I feed her when shes done her shed so im really hoping once done her blue phase she has a good shed..but since she did move homes and there was stress involved they said she might not have a good shed. *crossing fingers*

Instead of spraying the tank 8 times a day (which might actually bring down ambient temperature in the terrarium and possibly get your snake sick) you can buy some sphagnum moss. All you have to do is put damp moss under the hide. Then, your BP will have both warm temperature and good humidity for his/her shed.

Not sure about your setup, but how are you measuring your ambient temperature and humidity? Also, is your screen top covered? A lot of the humidity escapes if it's not covered.

I just finally gave up with the humidity in my Exo terra. I bought some sphagnum moss, dampened it and put it in her hot hide. She is in blue and hasn't left it! I also cut a piece of plywood with holes cut for lamps. Then changed her substrate to Reptibark! Viola! Maintaining 60% humidity in rest of tank and 75% in hide! Love that moss! No more spraying. I also have put it into my babies hides in their tubs to give them a tighter fit. I haven't had yo dampen it yet because the tubs keep humidity at 60-70% with paper towels. This forum is so wonderful. I never would have figured this stuff out without all the knowledgable people on here willing to help noobs.

Re: New bp in blue questions

Ok great to hear about the moss, ill try get my hands on some. I use a digital termometer/hygrometer to check my humidity levels. Spraying doesnt lower my ambient temps because I have a heat lamp for my cold side cuz im in the basement and need to warm my cold side a bit but im sure that why its not helping my humidity, but thats why I'm concerned about spraying because I dont want her to get an RI. I still want to use the paper towels as a substrate but ill try the moss during blue for sure.

How often should I be changing out the paper towel substrate normally though??? I dont want to go in there to bug her too often while she is settleing in.

Im still nervous to handle her, lol.
My top is covered with tin foil except for the spot where my lights are (reg light bulb-during day, red on at night for heat)

Even though id be using the moss during blue though, id still be having isdues with my humidity...if I didn't spray it would be sitting at like 30-40% is that really safe permenently when not in shed? I will be trying to get a fogger type situation going evdntually.
