    Incomplete Sheds?

So, Eden has shed twice with me now. The first was a whole lot of tiny flaky pieces everywhere which is when I learned as a new owner you have to watch humidity. The second came off as one big sleeve (yay!) EXCEPT her head(boo). I had to assist her with a warm wash cloth as several days later she was still stuck. Cleopatra shed in pieces the first time as well but I consistently misted and soaked her this time. Her shed did not come in a roll but more like several large and long pieces.

    Here is cage info:

Eden is in a hand-made wooden cage. It's ventilated on both sides with two small mesh windows and the lid is the same. She has aspen shavings for bedding and I mist her every day/other day. She has a log hide on her warm side and branches on the cool side.
On a side note, I did a full scale clean today as I usually do when its feeding day. I came upon mold under her bedding(not good!!!)and I'm curious as to what caused it?

Cleopatra is in a Exo-Terra with Aspen shavings. Same misting schedule. She has much more room therefore has more hide options than Eden. No mold was found in her cage, which is glass for the record.

What am I doing wrong here? I have no trouble feeding f/t. No troubles keeping everything clean aside from the recent mold. I mist daily during shed cycles and soak every other and I still get pieces!!

    My top questions:

    1) Would putting Eden in a glass terrarium such as a Zilla help?
    2) Does the fact that Cleo has a glass cage mean she retains more humidity?
    3) How would having Aspen effect the husbandry? I've heard of mixing Eco Earth with Aspen to help with moisture. I have a large amount of unused Aspen so I'd really like to keep it in the picture.

Thanks for any help Constructive criticism is appreciated.

My room is temp/humid controlled now, but when I was dealing with individual tanks I used a small burlap cinch bag you can pick up at any craft store or Walmart. I filled with moss and soaked it, then squished the bottom to get excess water off. Do that every 3-4 days as needed will keep you from having to spray all the time. I soaked everything in scalding hot water before using.

Did you leave this in each tank? I will try this!

While in shed, raise humidity but do NOT soak. Your snake is actually secreting it's own "liquids" between the new and old layers of skin, which is why they turn that creamy blue colour. By soaking them in this stage you are actually doing more harm than good. Just mist regularly for the week your snakes are in shed and they should be fine.

Yes. The bags came in a package of 3 if I remember correctly. I got the moss from the pet store. It was more expensive, and I still scalded it, but it just made me feel better. lol All of that together cost less than $10 though.

I also placed them in the corner, with the cinched top facing up so they didn't notice "a hole" and climb into it...haha The string I clamped in with the lid so the bags wouldn't fall over.

    Re: Incomplete Sheds?

Aspen is best if it stays dry. Spraying it caused the mold. You should switch to coco fibre or cypress mulch. Bioactive substrate if you're upfor it. But again aspen+water is asking for trouble

Ah. But it has nothing to do with my cage being wood? It is lacquered of course

Is it ok to put the moss in their hide? Prec is in blue now and is pretty much just staying in the hide with the moss
