Humidity Help!

I am having trouble keeping humidity where it should be in my BP's tank. My humidity gauge broke so I am working on getting a new one in the upcoming days, but I could tell my tank is dry and my BP had a bad shed. I WAS using newspaper but switched to paper towels, hoping it might hold more moisture. I have limited ventilation, since I have a screen top, but it doesn't seem to work. I try to mist regularly. Are there any other ways of keeping proper humidity?
Would using a substrate work better? If it does, I'd probably go the route of using aspen. I have questions on how often I should change the substrate.

I use a reptifog, fogger by zoomed. If you cover part of the screen top and run the fogger on a timer it will do the trick, and raise the humidity. Mine went from 20- 60% since i adjusted the intensity of the fog and the times it goes on. I got mine off the Petco on line store because, if there is a problem you can return it to any local petco in your area, but mine works great. The only change i am making is a larger water botttle, as the top is the same size as a soda bottle, so it will hold more water. Always used distilled water in these units. Exo terra makes a multi tank fogger, and it comes with a timer, but its twice the price. Good luck.

Need to know a couple things before making any suggestions. You say you have a screen top. Do you cover part of it to hold in moisture? Are you using a heat lamp? If so, it will make maintaining humidity difficult at best. Do you use a UTH?

I do not use a heat lamp, but I do have a UTH. The screen top is covered 3/4, so only 1/4th is uncovered.
Would buying a mister and frequently misting the cage work?

Yes a different substrate would help.

The easiest thing to do is add moss in the hides. During a pending shed keep it moist until its finished. During regular times allow it to dry out before making it damp again. Using this technique gives mall ball great sheds in a glass tank.

I have live plants so I still mist to water them but I don't do it but once a day and some days not at all.

Dump the screen top tank and get a pvc cage or tub. Either that or you'll be playing these games trying to nail down your husbandry forever.
